saturday nights were the one night every week when beckett could really let loose and not worry about having to get up for work the next day. the shop was closed on sundays and beck almost always chose to take full advantage of that. he'd not been much for partying and drinking when he was in high school, always having been the sort to follow the rules, which is why when he turned twenty-one he actually did take to drinking. he was no alcoholic, not by any means, but he did enjoy a beer with dinner and getting drunk maybe once a week, if that. it seemed that most of his friends were still at that point in life, the one where they could go out and have a good time without having to worry about too many responsibilities, and so it had come tradition for them to spend saturday nights at the bar. they would occasionally drive to cities close by and go to the clubs, but more often than not they just ended up at crazy eight. the bar was definitely smaller and it wasn't as rowdy as a lot of places, but it could still get pretty exciting on the weekends.
that particular saturday night had been no different than the others. beck and a few of his friends had shown up a few hours earlier and quickly gotten things under way. beck always took a few shots right away, never having much patience for slowly getting drunk. he wanted it to all happened so quickly and then to just nurse a few beers throughout the night to keep his buzz going. after a few rounds of shots, one of his female friends had drug him over to the dance floor, a few others following along after him, which is where beck had remained up until that point. there wasn't much room for dancing in the small bar, but it seemed that most of the people that were there had crowded into the small space. beck moved along easily with the popular hits that were playing overhead, occasionally being jostled by someone else nearby but for the most part remaining unscathed. the female he was dancing with was a girl he'd known forever, the kind of person that would always be a friend and really nothing more, and so the dancing was innocent, both of them trying to outdo each other and see who could look more ridiculous. every time one of them would pull off a tacky move the other would come out with something even more bizarre, causing the rest of their friends to erupt in laughter.
"i gotta go get some air," beck called over to his friends before slipping through the slightly crowded room. a blast of cool winter air hit him as he walked at out, but it was a welcome feeling after being in the stuffy bar. stopping just a few feet away from the door, beck swayed back and forth for a moment before sliding his way down the wall and settling down on the sidewalk, his back propped up the old brick of the building. one hand dropped into the pocket on the breast of his flannel shirt, pulling out a pack of cigarettes. beck wasn't the sort to smoke all of the time but he did always buy a pack before he went out drinking. there was just something about being drunk that always made him crave the things. flipping the top open, beck pulled out a single smoke as well as the lighter that was nestled into the halfway empty pack. he put the stick to his lips and flicked the lighter, taking in a deep breath and holding it for a few moments before slowly letting the smoke fall from his mouth.
the chilly january air started to slowly creep its way into beck's clothing, causing a small shiver to run through his body. he was really starting to regret not grabbing his jacket before he had exited the bar, but he just kept reminding himself that he could go back inside and warm up as soon as he finished the cigarette, which was almost halfway gone anyways. bouncing his feet along to the soft thumping music coming from inside, beck took another drag, trying to keep his mind on anything other than how cold he was.

"you better pace yourself, dude," anden heard from beside him as he finished off his second shot and all he could really do at first was roll his eyes a bit in response. turning to look at his friend, a small smirk tugged at the corners of anden's lips as the other male reached over and took the third shot for himself. smirk quickly shifting into somewhat of a sneer, he ran fingers through brown curls briefly and leaned closer to speak over the music.
"i could say the same to you. god forbid somebody lets you have a shot," he spoke over the music and the crowds of people talking and laughing around him. honestly, anden wasn't used to the bar being this crowded, especially in such a small town but it was a welcomed feeling for once. the music was loud enough to push all of his worries right out of his mind if the alcohol wasn't enough and with this many people he was bound to find someone to end up with by the end of the night. "you owe me a drink, by the way. and don't get too sloppy because if i can't find anybody to take home, it'll be you," anden added, pulling back to give jordan one of his signature smiles and even though they both laughed about it, anden was completely serious.
they had been friends since middle school, always getting into some sort of trouble together and it wasn't like they haven't done anything with each other before. the first time it happened it was during their senior year. they had both gone back to jordan's house completely drunk out of their minds and of course, that was when anden was at his worst. his advances became obnoxiously persistent and no matter how many times he was turned down, he kept on it until jordan finally gave in. after that, it kind of just never stopped and the good thing about it was that the both of them were completely okay with things being purely sexual. that's what anden loved about jordan. neither of them wanted any strings attached and after a night of striking out, they both still had each other.
"yeah, whatever. don't be a dick," jordan called back, punching him in the shoulder lightly before he set his own empty glass back on the counter and anden just chuckled. "i'll catch up with you later though, alright? i got this girl to come down and you're gonna' fuck up my game," he said. the taller of the two simply raised his brows almost irritatedly before turning on his heel and back to the bar.
"fine, just keep your phone on, yeah?" anden said and the other male nodded quickly, giving his friend a pat on the shoulder before he disappeared into the crowd. part of him should have known that jordan would do this but he couldn't get mad about it because honestly, he would have done the same thing if it were him. the fact that there was a good chance of him not having anybody as a back up plan was what was bothering anden the most yet at the same time, he knew finding somebody else wouldn't be hard. it never was when he put forth enough effort.
shrugging it off, the brunette ordered a beer and tossed some cash onto the counter, thanking the bartender with one of his signature smiles because hell, he was a already a little buzzed and nobody was safe from his flirting. he quickly grabbed up his bottle, taking a long swig before he headed for the exit with his pack of cigarettes already in hand. he managed to take one out without dropping anything and placed it between his lips as he headed outside, patting his pockets with his free hand in search of a lighter. "fuck," he grumbled, still patting himself down as he looked around for somebody else. eyes finally landing on a figure sitting down on the wall, he could see the cherry of the other's cigarette through the darkness and anden sighed in relief.
"hey, you think i could use your lighter?" he asked as he walked over to the other male and the guy's features became clearer as he stepped closer. bright blue eyes narrowing down at him, anden paused for a brief moment because even though everybody around here was familiar, he'd recognize that slightly offset jaw anywhere. it was beck watson, someone anden actually hadn't seen around in a while surprisingly and a large, toothy grin spread over his features at this. even now, he remembered his freshman year when he first laid eyes on him and subsequently the awkward, unrequited attraction he had harbored for the older male; unrequited because back then, anden was no where near the person he was now and he never would have thought beck would go for a freshman when he himself was a junior.
"i uh, i think we went to high school together. remember me?" anden asked, his smile still present and hey, maybe this wouldn't turn out to be such a bad night after all.
sorry this took so long omg. your starter was amazing, don't worry. i'm sorry i produced such garbage though xD |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,10,true][atrb=style, background-color: #fff; width: 450px, bTable] ROMANTIC AND DRENCHED IN SIN
it seemed that tourist always had this notion that california was in some eternal state of summer and it never got cold during the winter time, but that was actually just wishful thinking on everyone's part. sure it didn't get nearly as cold as some states did, but it still did get decently chilly during the winter months. that particular night didn't seem to be giving beckett any breaks, with pretty constant gusts of wind whipping down main street. one hand reached up, pulling the collar of his flannel shirt a little tighter around his neck, obscuring the view of the tight fitting v-neck shirt underneath it. the chill wasn't unbearable but compared to the warmth inside of the bar, beck didn't want to stay out any longer than he had to, at least not without his jacket.
the door opening and then promptly closing caught beckett's attention but didn't prompt him to look up. drunken people walked in and out of the bar constantly and it was more than likely two people headed home together, something that beck wasn't exactly accustomed with. he had never been much for the one night stands and drunken hook-ups, preferring to actually know someone before sleeping with them. his currently single status also prevented him from having anyone to take home, which was due to the particularly messy break-up he'd gone through about two months before. that one had been with a girl his friends had encouraged him to approach in the local coffee shop. they'd hit things off right away but it all went sour pretty quickly. that seemed to be the pattern in beck's relationships as of late. things were always ending quicker than the time before and beck couldn't help but feel it was his fault.
a voice from his side caused beck to look up quickly, finding himself craning his neck to stare up at the guy that had asked him for a lighter. "oh yeah of course, man," beck answered warmly, slipping the lighter out of his pocket and holding it up to the other male. it wasn't unusual for beck to be overly friendly with strangers that he met around town, not that anyone in moss landing was truly a stranger. beck had lived there since he was a child and by now he probably knew over half the town, and even those he didn't know he could usually put a name on at least. unfortunately for beck though, the light was at the other guy's back, casting shadows across his face and making it a bit hard for beck to figure out who he was from his current angle.
what beckett thought would probably be the end of their encounter though seemed to only be the beginning as his new companion spoke again. feeling a bit awkward sitting while the other guy was standing, beck easily rose from his sitting position. the smiling face that greeted him did look immediately familiar, although a bit more matured than what beck remembered of it. they had gone to high school, beck was absolutely sure of that and he was also sure that they had never actually talked before. the blue eyes and the curly hair were a dead giveaway though. what was his name again? aiden? no, that wasn't quite right. aiden, arden, ashton.. no, no anden. it was definitely anden.
an easy smile spread across beck's face as he remembered anden's name and he nodded. "yeah, yeah. it's anden, right?" he questioned, hoping that the name wasn't just his mind playing tricks on him. it did surprise beck that the younger male remembered him though. unless he actually spoke to someone, beck had always had the type of face that people could just easily forget. anden though, he had those intense features, that bone structure and those amazing blue eyes. of course beck would remember that face. "i'm actually pretty surprised you remember me," he added a moment later, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.
if even one good thing was to come out of finally meeting anden, it was that beck was no longer thinking out the fact that he was cold. in fact, he would gladly stand out here smoking another cigarette if it meant that he could actually have a conversation with him. it wasn't exactly every day that someone as good looking as anden came up and talked to him. beck had always thought of himself as pretty average looking and in turn typically found himself with with average looking people. that had always been fine with beck because it wasn't so much about superficial things with him. he had to admit that, in his slightly drunken state, he felt a slight hint of pride in himself for even being in a somewhat close proximity with someone that looked like anden. it was the little things.
