And through the rising and falling apart, We discover who we are one o clock, never too early for a drink. at least its the afternoon and not the morning, that's when you worry. it was the only time mabel really got with stella anyway. unless you count the drunken nights, for some reason, mabel didn't. well, it's not really bonding time is it? anyway, that's who she wanted to see and they did the same thing ever week. crazy 8's was used to them by now. the girls didn't even have to order their drink for the bartender to know what they wanted.
it'd been a busy day at the bakery so far. monday mornings everyone seems to want bread and mabel could hardly keep up with the demand. making a profit in moss landing is pretty easy when you're the only bakery in town but she wanted to know that everyone had tasted and enjoyed her products and that's wy she got herself out into the community a lot. if you know your customers, you know your trade. that was her motto anyway. matching an aztec dress with practical shoes and socks and a studded bag was the type of clothing you'd expect to see mabel in on most days but her signature look was definitely the red lipstick, whether it be bright or deep and today she hadn't let the side down. smart casual was certainly comfortable to mabel and she wouldn't change her style. she even wore dresses in the bakery simply because she thought it added 'cuteness' to the whole affair.
putting up a closed sign in the door of 'flour power' and rearranging her bag on her shoulder she set off down the main street to crazy 8's waving at a few people as she walked. with moss landing being only a small place there wasn't a long walk, in fact, it was only three doors down. so she let herself into the pub and settled herself at a small table next to the window with two chairs. "the usual, james!" she called to the male behind the bar. he was, in a sense, good looking but only nineteen and therefore not really old enough. besides, she didn't care about other men right now. in fact, that's what she needed a catch up with stella about. pulling out her iphone she waited for her drink and her best friend to arrive. tag: stella. outfit: click. notes: here you go, honey!

we see the same ghosts every day Greyhouse Coffee Shop was just down the street from Crazy 8 Bar, which made it quite convenient for Stella to duck out to the bar during her lunch break, which occurred disturbingly often. Of course, in a town such as Moss Landing, pretty much everything was just down the street from everything else. Such small towns could either be a blessing or a curse, and in her experience, this one was both in equal measure. In the bathroom of the coffee shop, Stella quickly changed out of her work shirt into a striped top and J-Crew blazer to go with her skinny jeans and ballet flats. Her hair was pulled back into a rather messy ponytail, but she didn't really bother with it, as she was just going to be back at work in an hour or so. And besides, the only person she was going to see was her best friend, and they were well past having to look good for each other, thank god.
Of course, Mabel always managed to look cute and put-together, which just wasn't fair. As Stella stepped into Crazy 8's, her eyes landed on her best friend and she grinned, noting her adorable outfit. Stella always noticed peoples' outfits, since fashion was sort of her thing, but it just seemed that her best friend didn't have to try as hard as others to look good, which wasn't fair at all. Stella tried very hard. She grinned at her friend and took the seat across from her at the small table. "Hey you!" she said brightly, setting her beloved Chanel purse on the wide window sill next to her. A glance over at James the bartender told her that he'd already seen her come in and was making her drink. How convenient it was to be a regular. Or was that rather looked down upon at a bar? Whatever. She flashed him a grateful smile and turned her attention back to her best friend.
"I see you failed to read my mind and bring me a sugar cookie," Stella observed, giving Mabel a mock-serious look. She made a tsk-tsk in disapproval. Sugar cookies, and basically anything made at Mabel's bakery, were Stella's weakness. It didn't help that she often got goodies for free, although she insisted on paying sometimes. Still, her best friend owning a bakery was not in her waistline's best interest, that was to be sure. She couldn't even imagine trying to maintain her self-control if she owned that bakery -- she marveled at how Mabel wasn't hideously obese, as Stella probably would be. Her line of work, her day job that is, was much less fun than owning a bakery though. Making lattes and cappuccinos all day got pretty damn tedious. Her other job could certainly be more exciting, of course, but that was rarely in a positive way. Stella fidgeted with her sleeve, her mood dropping a little just thinking about it. Selling drugs was not something she had ever seen herself doing... but it was for good reason -- she was saving up to go to school! So that meant it wasn't so bad, right? WORDS: 538 . TAGGED: MABEL . And through the rising and falling apart, We discover who we are crazy 8 wasn't exactly the classiest place to be seen but it was pretty much the only pub moss landing had acquired over the years. there might have been others, before mabel moved there, of course but they obviously hadn't managed to stay open and bring in the custom. but with a population of two hundred and four keeping a business open was always going to be difficult. there just aren't enough people around to take money from. that's why mabel had struck gold with her bakery. being the only business to sell freshly baked produce for at least seven miles and who wants to pay for petrol when all you want is a chocolate croissant? no one, that's who and with a specialist culinary education like mabel's, why would you?
mabel raised her head as she sensed movement from stella walking in. her signature, toothy grin spread across her face. bless her and her little work outfit. that was the great thing about being self employed, no uniform. saying that, the bakery was getting to the point where she was thinking about taking on a part timer from the high school. then she might actually have to introduce a dress code to show customers some order. then again, wearing cute clothes makes the business more cosy and homely and she preferred it that way. there were definitely pros and cons to all business ventures, ideas and decisions but mabel had a logical mind and that certainly helped.
"hi honey!" she said casually, "good day serving coffee?" she continued adding a cheeky giggle. it's pretty much the same kind of job as the bakery, public service and cash handling but mabel couldn't help but feeling that making lattes all day could get monotonous. there weren't many jobs in moss so you took whatever you were given and you were glad for it. well, that's what mabel had been told. because she hadn't grown up here she didn't quite understand their customs from time to time. she loved it though, much more than nyc. there might be a lot going on in the big apple, but it didn't compare to town living, not in her eyes anyway.
"I see you failed to read my mind and bring me a sugar cookie," mabel dropped her jaw in false surprise. "aw, i thought you knew me better than to say such a thing!" she threw her long hair over her shoulder and pulled out an extra large sugar cookie from her bag for stella and a blueberry muffin for herself. passing over the cookie she glanced over to james and sure enough, he was just leaving the bar with their drinks. perfect timing. tag: stella. outfit: click. notes: awww, these two! <3

we see the same ghosts every day Stella rolled her eyes at her best friend's rather cheeky query. "Oh you know, thrilling as usual," she responded dryly. "You wouldn't believe how many caramel lattés I made in a row. It's mind-blowing stuff." Of course, her friend knew very well that her job wasn't the most exciting in the world, although Stella did try to avoid complaining about it. It wasn't all bad, honestly. Sometimes when she had a nice chat with a particularly friendly customer or received a generous tip, her job didn't seem too horrible. Plus she got free coffees so she was pretty much constantly hyped up on caffeine, always a plus in her book.
As Mabel reached in her bag and withdrew Stella's favorite treat, her eyes widened in delight and she gave a small squeal. "Oh my gosh, you are by far my favorite person in the world!" she exclaimed, grinning at her friend. She gladly took the cookie and took a bite of it, the delicious chewy texture melting in her mouth along with the delicious frosting. There was nothing like Mabel's sugar cookies. They definitely beat those disgusting store-bought things with about a pound of gross icing on them. She chewed slowly, savoring the cookie. "Amazingly delicious as usual," she remarked. "Seriously Mabel, you have like a god-given talent. I'm glad you use your power for good." As if her palate couldn't be any happier, James arrived at their table the next moment with their drinks. Stella glanced around for Sawyer, the owner of this bar and one of her best friends, but he didn't seem to be around at the moment.
"What would we do without you, James?" she said cheerfully, taking a sip of her gin and tonic with a lime. It was quite tasty as usual. He had a knack for mixing the perfect amounts of gin and tonic water to create a wonderful balance. "Thank you!" Stella turned back to Mabel with a smile, very content with her cookie and her drink, as strange as a combination as they might be. "So, what's new in the life of Mabel?" she inquired. Unlike when she asked some people what's new?, Stella was actually very interested in the answer, since this is her best friend we're talking about. Somehow, they never seemed to have enough time to just talk. It didn't help that Stella had relatively recently started dating Joshua Marks, although of course she would never blow off best friend time. It just meant her schedule was a little bit fuller. Before she forgot, Stella asked quickly, "Oh, are you going to the holiday pitch-in? Apparently there's an ugly sweater contest this year." The annual holiday event was nothing new, but the new feature promised to be... super exciting, right?
