Regan Emily Barnes
[/blockquote]Some people are stuck because they can't get out, and some people are stuck because they don't want to. Regan falls into the latter category, not because she feels any particular love for Moss Landing, but because she doesn't think anywhere else will be any different, nor does she have the ambition to bother finding out. She is content to spend her life in this town, taking up the family business taking care of the graveyard and running the funeral home and mortuary service. Having her future more or less assured, and the constant presence of death in her life has given her a very long perspective. Whenever she gets irritated or angry at someone, she can remember that one day she will almost certainly be burying their corpse. Regan tends to be cold towards others. She's happy with her own company, and sees no need to pretend to like other people more than she does. Nevertheless, she's fun enough to be around if you don't mind her acerbic wit. She smokes and drinks, but not to the level of problematic addiction. Because she doesn't have any ambition, she finds it irritating in other people. She'd prefer to hang out with burnouts, depressives, and drunks than with people who have starry eyes and big dreams. Not that she's bitter about being stuck here, just that she finds that sort of optimism irritating.
friends,
Regan's friends are an eclectic bunch. Most of them probably take her coldness and biting commentary as a sort of big joke, and act like she really likes them anyway (which she does, although she'd never admit it). They tend to be pretty chill, the sort of people who'd rather sit in the graveyard passing around a bottle of vodka and telling stories from old myths then actually do anything constructive with their time. Regan's friends aren't likely to be the ambitious sort or the types that dream of getting out of Moss Landing, since Regan is a living reminder that most people who are here, die here.
enemies,
Regan doesn't really care enough to put too much effort into being anyone's enemy, although she certainly dislikes plenty of people. If she's not a fan of someone, she's likely to avoid them. She'll make it plainly clear that she can't stand them, but big fights or elaborate revenge aren't her style. After all, she knows that she'll have the last laugh. Everyone dies eventually, and when they do, Regan will be there to put them underground. Regan is likely to make enemies out of ambitious types, the people who want to get out of Moss Landing, since she'll be happy to remind them that they will almost certainly fail.
lovers,
Regan's gay, and pretty inexperienced. She had a couple almost-flings in high school, but nobody she really clicked with enough to have a relationship. She's not, strictly speaking, open about her sexuality, but small towns have few secrets, and anyone who's really interested probably knows, or at least should (some of the guys who've been interested in her have had a peculiar blindness to that sort of observation). Regan doesn't put much meaning on sex, but her personality will eventually drive away anyone who isn't either supernaturally easygoing or similarly bitter about the entire rest of the world. Secretly, Regan hopes that she'll fall in love, but she can't see it happening with any of the other idiots she knows.
